The 12 day Safari Holiday Uganda takes you through Murchison Falls National Park. Expect a detour visit to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, game drive and launch trip to the bottom of the falls. Thereafter, transfer to Kibaale National Park for the Chimp trekking experience. Exit Kibaale and go Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will enjoy game drive plus a launch trip on the Kazinga Channel. Transfer to Bwindi for the ultimate Gorilla experience. From Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi for Relaxation, you will then go Lake Mburo national park before concluding in Entebbe.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport

On your arrival at Entebbe airport, you will be picked up by our representative, your driver guide, who will brief you about the day’s program and transfer you to your place of accommodation. You will do a city tour in the afternoon and visit local sights depending on your time.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls with stopover for Rhino Tracking

After Morning Breakfast Your driver will pick you from your Accommodation and head out for Murchison falls. En route, make a stopover at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary for your first Big 5 experience where you will have an hour of rhino tracking. Another stop will be in Masindi in order to enjoy your lunch which after you shall head to the Jonam community for a cultural experience with them. You will engage in The Jonam’s Music, dance and have a feel of their way of life. Form the community, that is later in the evening, you shall check into your accommodation and relax for the Evening.

Day 3:  Morning game drive and launch trip to the base of the falls

After an early breakfast, drive through the Northern section of Murchison with a high concentration of savannah wildlife. Enjoy game viewing and photography of elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, giraffes, Uganda kobs and lions, the solitary leopard (if you are lucky) plus a variety of bird species. Return to your accommodation for lunch.

In the afternoon after your lunch. You will head for the launch trip to the base of the falls. This trip is said to be the highlight of the safari in Murchison falls since it allows you to get up close to the animal species within the water. Cruise past huge hippo pods, crocodiles, bathing buffalo, and numerous aquatic birds adorning the north bank on the way to the mighty waterfalls. You will have an opportunity to take thousands of pictures (and so carry your camera with you if you like). Also, proceed for a hike (if you like) to the top of the falls. The hike is a strenuous one but the thrill on reaching the top is unforgettable. Miss it only if you must! Return to your accommodation thereafter.

Day 4: Top of the falls experience and Transfer to Kibaale Forest National Park

Enjoy an early breakfast at the lodge you shall get to travel to the top of the Murchison Falls and witness the falls up close before you start your drive to Kibaale Forest; you will take pleasure in the gorgeous scenery of this countryside which makes the journey more exciting. Have your lunch en route in Fort portal town and continue as you will have great views of the Rwenzori ranges. Check in at your lodge and relax for the night.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking, and Bigodi swamp walk and community experience

Get up so early for breakfast and head to the park, where you will be briefed and later start off with Chimpanzee trekking in the forest. Kibale forest is among the charming places well-known for different primates and several crater lakes within Uganda. In the morning you will see the chimps in their natural environment. Chimps are exciting and this very close encounter will reward you with a memorable experience on your trip. After the tracking you will return to the lodge, refresh have lunch and prepare to head out to Bigodi Community for a walk through Bigodi swamp and interactions with the local community. From Bigodi, you will head to your accommodations for dinner, refreshment and over night stay

Day 6: Batooro cultural experience and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national Park

After breakfast at your hotel, you shall head out to the Batooro community for an interaction with them and also a feel of their day to day lives, you will engage in different activities with the local people such as dance, music, food preparation and so many more. You shall head to your lodges for lunch and refreshment after which you shall be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National park.

Day 7: Morning Game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

After your morning coffee, head out for a game drive to look for wildlife on the Kasenyi track of the park. Common sightings here are; elephant, warthog, water buck, Kob, leopard, lions, hyena, and buffalo.

Later in the day when the sun is high in the sky and the animals make their way to the river for a drink, we will head to Kazinga Channel for a launch trip. You will spot more hippos today than you can possibly imagine. Herds of elephants and buffalo will also wander down to the shoreline to bathe in the cooling waters. The launch trip is a fantastic way to get close to wildlife and for many visitors the trip is the highlight of their visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After the Launch trip, head to you lodges for refreshment and overnight stay

Day 8: Basonghola culture experience and Katwe salt mine

After your breakfast, meet with your driver guide who is to transfer you to the Basonghola community for culture immersion activities and experience. Engaging in different activities with the people will give you an actual feel of the day to day of the Basonghola.

After your lunch, you shall head out to the Katwe salt mines to also learn the ‘how’ of the salt making process from Lake Water.

Day 9: Leave for Bwindi and Batwa Community Visit

After breakfast at the hotel, you shall leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National park via the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth known as the Ishasha sector known for its famous tree climbing lions. The journey is quite scenic taking you through lush green hills and meanders that are worth videography, and where possible we shall stop overs for some photography. On arrival, you will continue for a community walk which takes you to meet the ancient heritage of the Batwa that used to inhabit the forest for over 500 years however, they were forced out of the forest for conservation process. They will entertain you through their cultural dance and music as well as giving you their historic stories. Retreat from the activity have dinner, and relax at the lodge

Day 10: Gorilla trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Encountering the rare and endangered Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is an experience of a lifetime. Half of the world’s population of gorillas live under the mist-covered canopies of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest. In the company of an experienced park ranger you will be tracking the whereabouts of one of the nine habituated family groups who live in the park. Your tracking experience will be an exciting, yet challenging, journey along forested (often muddy and slippery) slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation and bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. En-route, your ranger will point out tell-tale signs of previous gorilla activity like dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Once the family of gorillas has been located, settle in to your surroundings and enjoy the hour you have to quietly observe these fascinating primates whose habits and mannerisms remind us so much of our own.

From the trek, you will have lunch and you will be transferred to Lake Bunyonyi, passing in Village, where you will find locals in their garden and best view from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and a thousands of hills up to Kabaale Town. The lake is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.

Day 11: Bakiga community experience, relaxation on Lake Bunyonyi and transfer to Lake Mburo

Wake up and take your breakfast then head out to the Bakiga Community for culture immersion activities and also interactions with the people there. Get engaged in different activities such as farming, milking, grazing animals and several other activities that will make you part of the Bakiga’s day to day life. Afterwards, you can walk back to the lodge for lunch before proceeding for a boat ride or canoeing. You will be taken to visit the beautiful islands where you will get even better views of the lake, surrounding areas, rolling hills and terraces. Most of the islands are named after the dominant bird species there. One particular island is known as the punishment island. The Bakiga tribe living in the area once had a cruel culture of abandoning all girls who got pregnant before marriage in this particular island. They were left there to die since most couldn’t swim. Most of the girls were eventually rescued by the men who had impregnated them or bachelors who couldn’t pay the bride price required by parents of virgins.

You will interact with the people, visit some of the schools and health facilities. If you are the inquisitive type, you might want to visit the local traditional healer in one of the islands. After you are done with the activities, the boat will bring you back ashore for refreshment and relaxation at the lodge. The evening should be reserved for relaxation and short walks.

Day 12: Banyankole culture experience

After breakfast at your hotel, you shall head out to the Banyankole community for culture experience. This shall involve engaging in their day to day activities such as cattle grazing, milking of cattle, food preparation, millet grinding, ghee production and storytelling.

You will have a delicious lunch that has been prepared locally by you and the rest of the community after which you may head back to your lodge for relaxation and refreshment. The rest of the evening shall be for relaxation.

Day 13: Mburo park (bush) walk and transfer to Entebbe International Airport

Enjoy your early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo morning park (bush) walk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger/guide. On this early morning guided walk; you will have the opportunity to encounter (at close range): Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi and other antelope, Cape buffaloes among others.

Take the Trail to the top of the hills and see Lake Mburo and beyond. From this vantage point, you will have a great view of 9 of the twelve lakes surrounding Lake Mburo NP. Thereafter, you will drive back to lodge for lunch and then transfer back to Entebbe International Airport.
