A 7 days 6 nights mountain Rwenzori trek is a mind-blowing experience as it takes you to one of the highest mountain peaks in the whole world. You are about to face one of the most challenging and rewarding mountain hiking experiences. Mt. Rwenzori National Park boasts Africa’s third highest peak, Magherita with many other peaks like Stanley, Baker, Speke among others. Day 1: Transfer to Kasese, lunch en routeDay 2: Nyakalengija (1,615m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m).
Start from Rwenzori National Park headquarters. Hike at your own pace through the hospitable Bakonzo settlements to the Rwenzori main gate. After registration, hike through the dense tropical rainforest and lush greenery, spotting black and white colobus monkeys and bird species like the Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome francolin among others. The melodies of the singing birds and the canopies above your head give you a nature vibe. Take a break, have lunch and refreshments and continue hiking the great Mountain Rwenzori.
Reach Nyabitaba Hut for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3,505m)
After an awesome breakfast, descend to Kichuchu River, cross a bamboo and montane forest, and enter the heather zone. Remember not to overstrain to reserve your energy for later. You will be blessed with abundant flora and fauna. The unique three horned chameleon awaits. Have lunch during a short break, stretch, relax and continue hiking.
Arrive at John Matte Hut for overnight, with views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke.
Day4: John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut (3,962m)
After a finger licking breakfast, continue our 7 days hike to Bujuku river and arrive at the inferior Bigo swamp. Cross the Bigo Bog, using wooden boardwalks. A lunch break and a relaxing session is a must
Reach Bujuku Hut for overnight near Bujuku Lake, with great views of Mount Speke and Baker.
Day 5: Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut (4,541m) or Kitandara Hut (4,023m).
Have breakfast very early in the morning and set off our 4th day hike. Go through the several swamps and the ground gully. Head towards the steep trail above large boulders to Mt Stanley, proceed to Elena Hut via rocky trails. Overnight at Elena Hut.
Day 6: Elena Hut to Margherita Peak (5,109m) to Kitandara Hut
After a very early morning delicious breakfast, set off for a glacier climb to Margherita Peak (Uganda’s highest point). Hike through the sharp rocky regions of the Stanley plateau using ropes to the edge of the Margherita glacier, the most challenging yet most exciting part of the safari. This is because you can see that you're almost there, a few steps compared to how many you've taken so far. You then proceed to the Margherita peak, the highlight of our trip. You are blessed with breathtaking views of the clouds, the snow, the sun, Lake Ireen among others. Descend to Kitandara Hut through the Scott Elliot Pass, the most beautiful spot in Rwenzori.
Overnight at Kitandara Hut. Sleep with the highest sense of accomplishment.
Day 7: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut (3,261m)
Have a very satisfying breakfast after a beautiful sleep and get going. Descend via Freshfield Pass, with views of the Congo border. From the trail, the boggy pass proceeds downhill, going through the rock housing at Bujangolo which is an excursion from the books of history by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.
Continue down steep trails to Guy Yeoman Hut for overnight.
Day 8: Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalengija (1,615m)
Have breakfast and finalise our 7 days descending through bamboo forests and past waterfalls. Passby the beautiful Lake Mahoma. Return to Rwenzori National Park headquarters and report your return. Welcome back from one of the biggest and challenging mountain treks. This trek offers a mix of rainforest, alpine, and glacier trekking, making it one of Africa’s most diverse and challenging hikes.
Day 9: Departure to Kampala. Lunch en route.NOTE: YOU MAY CHOOSE TO EXTEND FOR SOME DAYS AND EXPERIENCE THE BAKONJO CULTURE OR QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK.WE WILL BE GLAD TO HAVE YOU AT CALSAAR SAFARIS UGANDA.
